Konami Holdings Corporation (soon to be Konami Group Corporation, by the way) has recorded its most profitable year ever in its financial results for FY2022. Its operating income has risen from 36.6 billion yen in FY2021 to 74.4 billion yen, marking a 103.6% increase. The overall profit increase after taxes yielded a 69.9% increase YoY.

When split into its core business sectors, Konami recorded its biggest profit increase within the ‘Gaming & Systems’ sector, recording 25.6 billion yen in revenue, up 54% from the previous year. ‘Digital Entertainment’ remains the biggest revenue sponge for the company, bringing in an impressive 215 billion yen for the year, an increase of 5.3%.

Konami attributes Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel as a strong driver for its ‘Digital Entertainment’ performance, with the game exceeding 30 million downloads as of April 2022. The Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game is also performing well and “continues to gain global support”.

Looking ahead to FY2023, Konami is forecasting continued growth across all of its business sectors, with a predicted increase of 13.1% in its ‘Gaming & Systems’ sector a key point of interest. The company will be launching the highly anticipated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection later this year, but it’s possible the company may have other surprises up its sleeve.

In its native Japan, Konami’s popular Switch board game Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban! passed 3.5 million units sold, easily surpassing the global sales of Metroid Dread, which has reached 2.74 million units sold.
